Father's Day Weekend

We had a great time camping at Oconee State Park for Father's Day. It was a much needed relaxing weekend.

One Simple Change

I will get to the One Simple change in a minute. I haven't posted in a while because I was not quite sure what to say. I was not sure how I wanted to express the things going on in our family since March of this year. Most people that we know by now know that my husband was diagnosed with Squamous Cell Carcinoma in the throat in March. The diagnosis was not a good one and we were in a state of shock at first. As we left the doctors office we were trying to process what they just told us. Surgery, chemo, radiation, feeding tube, eating and talking rehab. For a while we were speechless. Finally I told Russ that this was totally his decision as to what he wanted to do. How he wanted to handle this situation. I told him what I would do if it was me. He decided that he did not want to go through the surgery or chemo or radiation. He wanted to find a natural approach to healing himself of cancer. So our journey into natural cancer cures began. There have been a lot of questions and not knowing exactly where to go first but through prayer and trusting our gut instinct, we have embarked on a 12 week intense cancer killing protocol. For the next 12 weeks, Russ will drink lots of freshly squeezed juice, supplementing with Juice Plus capsules during the day. He drinks two smoothies a day with Cellect powder for killing cancer. He eats cottage cheese mixed with flax oil and fruit twice a day to kill cancer. He snacks on apricot seed kernels throughout the day which has been proven to kill cancer. He also drinks a green drink everyday called Superfood. Needless to say, he doesn't want to eat after drinking all of his drinks all day. The great thing is he feels great and continues to work full time. We are amazed everyday that we have come so far in a short period of time. We have learned a lot about health and nutrition and what causes disease. We only thought we were eating and living healthy before. We know now that we were not. While Russ has been forced to make a dramatic change in his lifestyle, the rest of us are taking a more casual approach. Which brings us to the topic of One Simple Change. As a family, we are picking one thing a month to focus on and change for the better in our life. It can be anything from what we eat, to how we treat each other, to having more fun as a family. So far, we have changed how we eat and look at food. Mostly by really knowing what we are putting in our bodies, reading labels, and knowing what are good things and what are harmful. We know we need more fruits and vegetables so we have increased those things as well as adding Juice Plus capsules or gummies to our diet. This has been the easiest change we have made. The next month we did an experiment with an apple based on the words we say. We cut an apple in half and spoke kindly to one apple, only saying positive affirmative things and we spoke mean and negative to the other half. We did this for one month and the results were unbelievable. The positive apple had some brown on it but still had white on it. The negative apple was all brown, shriveled, and moldy. If anyone had anything negative to say we would say, "talk to the apple". As a result of the experiment, we are all much more aware of what we say to each other and even to ourselves. Our words have a lot of power. If you want good, positive things in your life, then you need to speak good and positive things. Another change we have made is to eat at least one meal together as a family a week. This might not sound like much but when you are busy and going in a lot of different directions, it is the best we can do for now. Sometimes, now that soccer is over for the summer, we might do it more often. This month is moving our body more, getting in some exercise. The boys do not need any help in this department but Russ and I do. Not that it has to be hard or overwhelming. Every change we make is something that we can stick with for the long run, not just the month. We try to make it realistic and fun. If it is not working for us as a family then it is time to pick something else. Our hope and challenge is for other families to get involved in making One Simple Change as a family. Or as an individual. There are things in all of our lives that we can improve on. It is much easier to change one thing at a time and make it a habit then move on to the next thing. This has been a life changing concept for us. It is so simple, I do not know why we didn't start it sooner. I have created a facebook page called "One Simple Change - All About Fun" for anyone that would like to join and start the challenge. And always remember, life is truly an adventure!
